Big hitters back Event Sustainability Live
Hire Space, A Greener Future and Eventwell are the latest names to partner with Event Industry News (EIN)’s new show Event Sustainability Live, which takes place at Excel London in November. Support from industry lynchpins is a boost to any launch event and, in this case, it underlines the want for, and the extensive research behind, creating and delivering Event Sustainability Live (ESL).
Record-breaking numbers at the weekend’s star-studded Borders Book Festival
A packed programme of stars from the worlds of stage and screen, current affairs, politics, literature, and sport, as well as four sun-drenched days, brought the crowds flocking at the weekend to the Borders Book Festival in Melrose, in the Scottish Borders. A record-breaking footfall of almost 40,000 came through the gates of Harmony Garden, a huge 23% increase on last year, whilst ticket and book sales were up by 13%. Events over the four days were well attended, with almost a third sold-out, demonstrating audience confidence and an appetite for live events has, at long last, returned following the years of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Behind the scenes at the Royal Highland Show build
The Royal Highland Show is an annual showcase for rural and agricultural products, produce and lifestyle. As the largest agricultural show in Scotland, the event draws enthusiasts and industry professionals from far and wide to the magnificent Royal Highland Centre in Scotland. Locally based Field & Lawn Ltd are responsible for the monumental task of constructing a remarkable array of marquees and temporary structures for the event. Building around 14,000m2 (3.5 acres) of covered space.
HebCelt Islands Stage to have zero carbon footprint for second year
HebCelt will once again be significantly powered by green hydrogen thanks to funding from EventScotland’s National Events Programme, as it continues its commitment to sustainability and innovation. Recently named one of the top 10 sustainable events in Europe, 2022 saw the festival utilise PlusZero’s innovative technology for the first time, with the Islands Stage in the main arena powered by zero-emissions energy during the three day event.

PENINSULA LONDON ANNOUNCES OPENING DATE
The Peninsula has announced that its long-awaited London property is now accepting bookings from 12 September 2023. The newly built hotel, designed and appointed to embody the finest British craftsmanship, is located at a prestigious address where Hyde Park Corner meets Wellington Arch. The Peninsula London centres around an expansive, off-street courtyard, landscaped in the style of a classic English garden with cascading ivy, wisteria vines, and 120-year-old Japanese maples.

As part of our Better Business series to share sustainability stories in the events industry, we catch up with Pedro Montoya Navarro, head of international MICE at Copenhagen-based DMC and event agency Idéa Nordic, on gaining Green Tourism Organization certification and putting people and planet above profit… “Sustainability is one of our company’s values and is at the core of everything we do. It’s something that we have all been doing for many years in our homes and the workplace,” says Montoya Navarro.
HOST & COMEDIAN ANNOUNCED FOR BIGGEST EVER MICEBOOK AWARDS
Emcee Neil Hudson-Basing and comedian Eshaan Akbar will co-host the micebook Awards 2023, which is set to be our biggest ever awards event, with around 400 eventprofs expected to join in the celebrations at The Dorchester next week (29 June). A dynamic event emcee and talented communicator with a passion for bringing audiences together and always with inclusivity and equality at the forefront, Neil prides himself on being unapologetically himself. He hosted the micebook EXPO 2023 in January and we’re thrilled he’s joining us again to host the awards through our ongoing partnership with conferenceemcees.com.
