Are we seeing the return of the roadshow?
Roadshows were a big hit up until 2019, then we had a two-year, Covid-enforced hiatus, but now they seem to be back, bigger than ever, explains Simona Negretto, national conference and event manager, Vue Conferences & Events… With the demand of face-to-face events still being at an all-time high, it seems that businesses are realising the roadshow is a great way to embrace everyone in the business and deliver the latest news and strategy forecasts in a very concise fashion. Roadshows can take a couple of formats, from moving the same event to a different location, giving each locality a relevant focus or having the same event at different locations at the same time, even linking them together with hybrid capability.

The Meetings Show’s hosted buyer reception to be first event aboard Oceandiva London
The Meetings Show’s 2023 Hosted Buyer Welcome Reception will be the first event held onboard Oceandiva London, the UK capital’s new sustainable events vessel. Attendees will be welcomed on board the £25m floating venue operated by Smart Group for an exclusive evening of entertainment and refreshments on Tuesday 27 June, before The Meetings Show kicks off at ExCeL London on 28 June. They will be the first #eventprofs to experience an event onboard Oceandiva London, which is the first carbon-neutral powered vessel on the Thames. It is also the world’s first to achieve the Platinum Label – the highest level of recognition awarded by Green Award for shipping companies committed to environmental protection, safety, and quality.

Scotland’s newest major festival The Reeling celebrates sunny success
The Reeling, Scotland’s newest traditional music festival, enjoyed a resounding success this weekend, with around 8,000 Scottish music fans making their way to sunny Rouken Glen Park for the inaugural event. The highly anticipated celebration of culture, creativity and community delivered on all fronts, with over 30 performances from some of Scotland’s most exciting musical talent and a family-friendly programme of activities delighting crowds over Saturday and Sunday.
New Director of Operations appointed at Glasgow’s SEC
One of Scotland’s most experienced major events professionals, has joined the SEC as Director of Operations. Colin Hartley (47) from Glasgow, joined the city’s event campus in early June to oversee the running of the SEC’s hundreds of exhibitions, conferences and live entertainment shows. With more than 20 years’ experience, Colin has been part of some of Scotland’s biggest and most exciting events. He was a key part of the team for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships, responsible for over 700 paid staff, 27 venues, 4000 volunteers and a cultural programme involving three live sites. He was also Championships Director for the 2015 FIG World Gymnastics Championships, hosted at the OVO Hydro and was Head of Festival Operations for Glasgow 2014, Commonwealth Games.

HYATT REGENCY LONDON BLACKFRIARS OPENS
Hyatt Hotels Corporation has expanded its presence in London with the opening of Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars. The 204-room hotel is the 14th property in the UK, a priority growth market within Hyatt’s diverse and evolving brand portfolio. In the last five years, Hyatt has increased its brand presence in the UK from five to 13 properties, with six of those based in London.
VENTURES 23 PANEL DEBATE – TACKLING THE CHALLENGES FACING OUR PLANET
At micebook Ventures last week, we invited a panel of experts from outside the events industry to take part in a debate on the importance of rewilding, what we can learn from mother nature, and how the events industry can play its part in restoring our planet. Facilitated by Leslie Robertson, CEO and founder of Ventures platform partner Open Audience, the panel featured Dr Vincent Walsh, Dr Alister Scott and Dr Benjamin Tam, CEO of Isle Utilities.
EVENTPROFS CHALLENGED TO “REWILD AND RESTORE OUR WORLD” AT MICEBOOK VENTURES
Around 70 #eventprofs gathered at the new Birch (Selsdon) for micebook Ventures Chapter II, which focused on rewilding, restoring our world by doing better business, and getting back to nature in the 200-acre estate. Kicking off on 5 June, the date on which World Overshoot Day 2023 – which marks the date when humanity’s resource consumption for the year exceeds Earth’s capacity to regenerate those resources that year (this year’s date is 2 August) – was revealed, the event yet again challenged our community with thought-provoking content.

The engagement and access that The Power of Events (UK) has across all 7 sectors of the industry, enables data gathering and in-depth research projects to be delivered confidently and consistently. This will be primarily facilitated through the new insight app to be launched on 28th Sep 2023.

By bringing the industry and university partners together, research projects will be designed to deliver real benefits to the industry in terms of trend analysis, insights and performance improvements.
