Before the single use plastic ban comes into effect, Julie Burniston explores what this means for the events industry, and how it can embrace alternatives. Single-use plastic products have long been a staple in the hospitality and events industry due to their convenience and affordability. However, their detrimental impact on the environment cannot be ignored. The ban, which comes into force on 1st October, will target a variety of items such as plastic straws, cutlery, plates, and food containers. Additionally, single-use plastic bottles, balloons, and packaging materials will also face restrictions.

Winners from the north of Scotland to the Netherlands included Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, Maggie’s Dundee, Newsquest Events Scotland, GetAbout Aberdeen Cycling Festival and Nook Event Pods. Held at the O2 Academy in Edinburgh, the 2023 E Awards were a testament to the resilience of the Scottish events industry and the excellence demonstrated by the shortlisted organisations and individuals involved, with over 230 people in attendance.

The engagement and access that The Power of Events (UK) has across all 7 sectors of the industry, enables data gathering and in-depth research projects to be delivered confidently and consistently. This will be primarily facilitated through the new insight app to be launched on 28th Sep 2023.

By bringing the industry and university partners together, research projects will be designed to deliver real benefits to the industry in terms of trend analysis, insights and performance improvements.
